Boingo's 4th album ushered in a whole new era for them- a new record label, a far less punky, radio-friendly sound, and a new bass player that in this fan's opinion would go on to prove himself an absolutely invaluable contribution to the band. We'll be talking more about Mr John Avila later in the month and what he's up to these days. Dead Man's Party is not necessarily a hardcore Boingo fan's typical favorite but it sure is their most accessible, Here we go with....
DEAD MAN'S PARTY RELOADED
WHAT I LOVE - The fact that this album landed up carving it's own special niche as a Halloween must, all by itself. Over time it has not become dated but more and more enjoyable and that's a pretty cool thing.WHAT I HATE - "Stay" and the fact that it got such strong airplay, there are lots of better songs on this album.
WHAT ASTROLOGICAL SIGN I THINK THIS ALBUM WOULD BE - Capricorn
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST TO LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM - Anytime AFTER dark.
BEST SONG - I'd have to go a 2-way tie between Just Another Day and Noone Lives Forever with Help Me a very close 2nd
WORST SONG - Weird Science, also my absolute least favorite Boingo tune period.
BEST DRUG TO TAKE WHILE LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM - That would be Ecstacy
BEST PERSONAL MEMORY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ALBUM - I can't remember!

HOLLYWOOD PALACE 1985
An obscure one here for sure, a cassette swipe from a soundboard but B grade in it's overall sound. Hardcore fans will probably dig, more notes below from the original trader I got it from....The Horror!! Set List 7daylink Rating B
"This is clearly a soundboard recording, but it has aged a bit. Still sounds fantastic, despite a tiny bit of wear and analog presence. The performance is phenomenal. Recording cuts off abruptly after No One Lives Forever, so it's unclear whether this is complete or not, but it's certainly long enough to be. The only other issues are quick clicks that happen between some songs, either to remove commercials, or to fix a TAO. It isn't distracting, and this show rules just the same. If you love Boingo, look no further." - fan's review |
