Just one night before I got to see them in Tempe at the glorious age of 17, Tull did this show. Those familiar with the "Dark Haiti" vinyl boot from the Seattle show, same week. This was a strong bittersweet time in the band's history. John Glascock was sick and leaving and they were tracking Stormwatch while maintaining a grueling tour schedule at the peak of their success. Jethro Tull's 12th studio album, Stormwatch, concludes with "Elegy," a quiet instrumental of pastoral acoustic guitar and melancholy strings. The title is appropriate. Composed by keyboardist-orchestral arranger David Palmer in honor of his late father, the three-minute piece serves as a gentle swan song for bassist John Glascock, who died from effects of a cardiac infection soon after being dismissed from the band (and only playing on three tracks).
