AROUND THIS NEXT BEND WE TAKE YOU ON AN "AFRICAN SAFARI"! - 1968 B-FLICK IS THE HORROR

A few of the movies I've been posting in the last couple months come from the 50-movie set B-Movie Blast by Millcreek. A splendid $12.99 expenditure if there ever was one. Similar to most of these repackaging efforts, you get a wide array and if you wind up with 5 or 7 you actually like, you can call yourself ahead of the game, ya dig? I suppose that number is upped a little with the b-movie collector but like a golden prize at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box, I pulled this sucker out for first view the other night, This movie was 2 years in the making and documents Ronald Shanin's victorious safari through Central & East Africa. For 75 minutes we get one majesty of nature after another as Mr Shanin tames lions, plays with tigers, helps natives, captures snakes like the Black Mamba and Egyptian Cobra (with his hands!) By the time the 75 minutes passes which is very quick he raps up by taking us to a live volcano. The narration is simple and sometimes funny, sometimes corny but very benign. Just a great watch for any animal lover of any age, I give African Safari the highest mark a b-flick can have- Two & 3/4 Pinewoods....The Horror!!

Unseen Films

Stunning documentary on the wild life of Africa and one of the men who collects it for zoos and museums, director Ronald E. Shanin. With dozens of cable channels running nature shows and PBS running even more one feels over whelmed at times and very often one feels that one has seen all there is to see.
