ARE YA READY FOR SOME 'STRAIGHT TIME'? - 1978 CHARACTER PIECE DUSTIN HOFFMAN CONVICT!

I first saw this gem of a film in 2010 and by the time
credits rolled it was already an instant favorite.
Dustin Hoffman, one of the greatest actors to
ever walk the face of this godforsaken planet,
absolutely kills it in his role as the life-er convict.
Pre-motorcycle crash Gary Busey, Harry Dean
Stanton on all 8 cylinders as a fellow bank
robber, music by David Shire, need I say
more? How bout M Emmit Walsh in one of his
most scripted roles ever as the sharp parole
officer, this thing rocks! Using my Palm Springs
Rating System I give the ole Straight Time
Four Solid Brightly Lit Palm Trees...The Horror!

Every 70s Movie: Straight Time (1978)

After the flurry of activity that followed his star-making performance in The Graduate (1967), Dustin Hoffman became incredibly selective in the '70s and '80s, sometimes letting years pass between projects. Not coincidentally, his commitment to the parts he actually took was incredible, manifesting as deep involvement with story development and meticulous research into the lifestyles of his characters.

Retro Reviews: STRAIGHT TIME (1978)

This underappreciated nugget from the '70s is a must-see for fans of Dustin Hoffman, author Edward Bunker and Quentin Tarantino. Smack in between The Graduate and on Dustin Hoffman's filmography is this under-seen gem from 1978, which seems to have slipped through the cracks despite a great cast and a surprising but undeniable connection to the Tarantinoverse.
THIS WEEKEND!
After three years of collecting B-movies and
drive-in fare, several hundred titles added to
my collection and hundreds of dollars I don't
have anymore, I pause and pick my top ten.
It's not a pretty sight. You've been warned.
The Horror!!
