The Hunter - review
Hunting is a longstanding metaphor in the movies. From the great explorer films of the early years such as The Lost World and King Kong, through to westerns, and later classics such as The Deer Hunter and White Hunter Black Heart, directors have used nature and the chase to depict man confronting his inner self, wrestling with his wild ego and his civilised id.
'The Hunter,' an Australian Odyssey With Willem Dafoe
"The Hunter," filmed in Tasmania, has the faintly surreal look peculiar to Australian movies in which nature pulses with a mysterious, primordial shimmer. Adapted from Julia Leigh's novel and directed by Daniel Nettheim from a screenplay by Alice Addison, the film tells the story of a lone hunter from another continent searching for a creature that may not exist in an old-growth forest largely untouched by humans.
