Tommy Lee Jones directs and stars in this outstanding and very overlooked neo-western. Barry Pepper, an actor not mentioned nearly enough kills it as the gung-ho border patrol officer who accidentally kills Tommy Lee Jones best friend. Bad idea my friend, let the revenge begin. Jones is mesmerizing, the cast is top-notch and the cinematography breathtaking. Want a good one to watch? Here it is. Using of course my Pinewoods Rating System, "Three Burials" gets the rare top honor - Five Pinewoods....The Horror!!
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada Movie Review (2006) | Roger Ebert
"The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" tells the kind of story that John Huston or Sam Peckinpah might have wanted to film. It begins with a bedrock of loyalty and honor between men, and mixes it with a little madness.
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada | Film Review | Slant Magazine
Passively cantankerous by its name alone, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada would probably not be titled such unless filmmaker Tommy Lee Jones purposefully intended for English-language speakers to struggle with pronouncing it.
