THE SCI-FI HORROR KNOWN AS "CLASS OF 1999"! - 1990 FOLLOW-UP TO 'CLASS OF '84' BY MARC LESTER

Class Of 1999 is not nearly as good as it's predecessor (Class Of '84) but tries hard and is still an entertaining b-flick Three robot teachers programmed to maintain order in a rough school turn out to have just a few glitches as they go a little further than the school administators had in mind. There is a subplot involving two gangs this time instead of one, and the first 20 mins or so are a bit slow but from then on the film keeps turning up the volume similar to the first movie. We also have a few more recognizable faces this time including Pam Grier and Malcolm McDowell. One of the things that made the first one so good imho was the intense conflict between teacher and brat and the casting of those two characters. This one never gets to that level but is still a fun flick. Using my Pinewoods Rating System, I give Class of 1999 Two & 3/4 Pinewoods....The Horror!!

House of Self-Indulgence: Class of 1999 (Mark L. Lester, 1990)

When I heard the line: "The year is 1999... there is no law" verbalized with a slightly robotic intonation, I half expected the thumping bass intro of a killer techno jam to immediately follow its utterance.

The Film Connoisseur: Class of 1999 (1990)

Title: Class of 1999 (1990) Cast: Malcolm McDowell, Pamela Grier, Traci Lind, Kirk Kilpatrick, John P. Ryan, Stacy Keach Mark L . Lester's Class of 1984 (1982) was a film that addressed issues concerning gang violence in schools, something that was getting out of control during the late 70's and early 80's.

THE CLASH ARE "D.O.A."! - THE HORROR OF THIS 4 HOUR COMPILATION OF OUTTAKES & ALTERNATES

The Clash make their way to the battlefield. There are quite a few versions of the "DOA" (demos, outtakes, alternates) that float around out there. Over the years I've seen 1, 2 and 3 disc versions, but this is the first 4 hour version I've come across and the first to cover post-Mick Jones era stuff. I'm dedicating this post to an old drummer of mine and very dear friend, Mr Lee Tuft himself. He always claimed that the Joe Jackson line in the song Look Sharp "go on and get me in the corner, smoke my cigarettes and drink my beer" was written about him. He was a great Ringo style of drummer and incredibly faithful to my music. A victim of a pretty hard life thru and thru, he then got the super-whammy with a very rare form of cancer where the right side of your face basically blows up and then out. Or out then up depending on your vantage point. Death typically occurs in less than two weeks. This one's for u "Tuftus Smufftus" (one of my nicknames for him) Song list is inside the youtube text, enjoy....The Horror!!

FRANK ZAPPA 1976! - THE HORROR OF THE OFFICIAL RELEASE KNOWN SIMPLY AS "PHILLY '76," YA DIG?

To try and keep up with all the posthumous Zappa releases is no easy task. But we FZ fans are blessed with manna from heaven and as far as I'm concerned they can keep serving up the slop for the rest of eternity, ya dig me? This show takes place within days of the popular Boston boot from same year and the set for the most part mirrors the Boston show which is an A+ grade audience bootleg, so I was anxious to hear this official show. This also becomes the first official release to feature Lady Bianca as she only joined that quick East Coast leg of tour. Her pipes are strong and angelic. This show is dynamite and neither better nor worse than Boston, however I will say the version of Titties & Beer on this (at that time titled Chrissy Puked Twice) is....The Horror!!

THE HORROR KNOWN AS "AIRPORT TERMINAL PACK"! - 4 AIRPLANE DISASTER MOVIES FROM THE 70'S

Such fire, frost or frippery. Available for as little as $3 on Amazon, the 4-movie set of the Airport movies is a horrific addition to any cinephile's collection. Now, as you know, this ain't no editorial type blog so I will immediately commence with the handing out of the appropriate Pinewoods for each movie under the Pinewoods Rating System- AIRPORT - it's hard to include this in the same catagory as the other three, it's not a disaster film so much as a great drama - 3 1/2 Pinewoods AIRPORT '75 - So bad it hurts, it's 0 Pinewoods but add 1 for Karen Black and 1 for just the overall oddball nature of this one, 2 Pinewoods
AIRPORT '77 - This one totally took me by surprise there's some miscasting going on like Jack Lemmon
as the pilot but this really is a decent flick, good story, I give it a solid 3 Pinewoods  AIRPORT '79 CONCORDE - I give this 1 1/2 Pinewoods for Jennings-Lang but unfortunately even their excellent production values couldn't keep the rest of this one afloat, or I should say in the air ha ha 1 1/2 Pinewoods The Horror!!

bloody terror: Airport Terminal Pack (Contains all 4 Airport Movies)

Airport (1970) It's been years since I saw the original Airport on TV. Here's why I haven't revisited it: It takes itself entirely too seriously (It has an all-star cast, after all), and it's got the classic disaster movie formula all wrong for my tastes.

Originally posted August 11, 2011 "The Glamorous Life" is a song written by Prince in 1984 and first recorded by singer/percussionist Sheila E. The dance song has lyrics which reflect a cynicism for the decadence and materialism of the song's protagonist, referred to in the third person, who "wants to lead a glamorous life", although she is aware that "without love, it ain't much".

LAWRENCE FISHBURNE IS "ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, ALWAYS OUT-GUNNED"! - 1998 HBO DRAMA HORROR

Larry Fishburne kills it in this HBO adaptation of a best-selling novel by Walter Mosley. The whole cast is amazing, it's shot in LA, and the story is street-smart yet heartwarming. Can't say enough about this gem! Pinewoods Rating System - Three & 1/2 Pinewoods....The Horror!!
The always enjoyable Isaiah Washington kills it in the intense "diner scene."
"ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, ALWAYS OUTGUNNED succeeds due to the happy marriage of star and screenwriter, Laurence Fishburne and Walter Mosley (who also serve as the film's executive producers). As created by Mosley, Socrates Fortlow is a gem of character: strong, wise, and almost classically flawed (not unlike Ezekiel Rawlins in 1995's DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS, based on a Mosley novel). Brought up on the street and raised in prison, Socrates is well aware that the world is a harsh place, and that the real challenge is in getting by with your self-respect intact. Fishburne seizes the role of Socrates and soars, depicting the fear and agonizing frustration that comes with trying to keep it together on the street: it's almost painful watching him return to the supermarket again and again just to apply for a job as a bagger, only to be lied to and tossed out by the manager.
But ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, ALWAYS OUTGUNNED also features a dynamite supporting cast. In addition to the always reliable Bill Nunn and Bill Cobbs, there are small roles by Bill Duke, Natalie Cole (as the proprietor of a local diner), and Cicely Tyson (as Burke's distrustful landlady). Daniel Williams, too, holds his own as young Darryl, a boy growing up in a world of guns and indiscriminate murder. To see these characters strive to maintain their dignity amidst their poverty is a rare and wonderful thing."- TV GUIDE

Watch Bruce Springsteen Cover Prince's "Purple Rain" in This Excellent Multi-Camera Edit

Bruce Springsteen opened his concert Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a faithful cover of Prince's "Purple Rain," complete with purple lighting and a piano. As is typically the case these days, half the audience was watching the concert through their phones (some broadcasting live on Periscope), so it took no time at all before lots of single-angle, jittery footage of the song showed up on the internet.
