Killer turkey on the loose, run for your lives! - This 2009 low budget deal continues to be the mainstay for thanksgiving horror flicks, because there simply isn't anything else to compete with it. Having said that, it is a pretty awful flick. Using my Pinewoods Rating System, Thankskilling gets One Lonely Pinewood. Best suited for younger audiences, like college age.....The Horror!!
ThanksKilling is not a great film. It is as low-budget as they come. The FX is pretty bad. The acting is terrible. The story is absurd. The writing isn't good (they use the same exact joke twice!) and the film doesn't ever attempt to challenge its viewer intellectually.
Oh yes, dear friends, its that wonderful time of year again. Time to get together with our blood relations and consume copious amounts of food under the guise of holiday celebration. Time to watch a football game, drink heavily, then pass out early on the couch with your belt torn asunder and an errant hand ...
Greetings all , welcome to Tommy's House Of Horrors where the Thanks-Horror Week rocks on, majorly ole skool bordering on vintage cd boot, audience capture in Frankfurt 1970, Stand Up tour, oh yeahhhh,,,,,The Horror!! 7daylink rip of above Aud A--- (or if you prefer B+++)
A slightly obscure early 70's Disney comedy, the always reliable Dean Jones inherits a ski lodge and up and quits his job to rush his family off to Colorado. Of course, once they get there it turns out the lodge isn't exactly a gift horse. Enjoyable family fare with that classic early 70's vibe, you can read some real reviews below, using Pinewoods Rating System, Snowball Express has adequate charm at Two & 3/4 Pinewoods.....The Horror!!
When I was growing up my grandfather regularly took me, along with my brother and cousin, to Disney's live-action films. Some of the films we saw in the early '70s were reissues of older '60s movies like MIRACLE OF THE WHITE STALLIONS (1963); we also saw first-run films such as THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES (1969), THE MILLION DOLLAR DUCK (1971), THE BAREFOOT EXECUTIVE (1971), NAPOLEON AND SAMANTHA (1972), and THE WORLD'S GREATEST ATHLETE (1973).
Johnny Baxter ( Dean Jones ) is your average hard-working American family man, stuck in an accounting job he doesn't like but staying on because he has a wife and two children to support. "In the five years I've been there I moved from accounts receivable to accounts payable", he explains to his wife.
A black sheep of all black sheeps in Neil Young's catalog, Neil goes slightly tech with Linn drums on this set of 10 tunes mostly despised by critics and fans alike. It therefore comes as little surprise this happens to be one of my favorite Young albums, this was also the first year he did Bridge School and we drove all the way up from LA. How many songs off this album did Neil do that night? That's right, zip. Food for thought as you gorge yourself with turkey sandwich #6.....The Horror!!
After a series of musical one-night stands, Neil Young is finally getting serious again. His previous three albums were just dalliances - in electronic ( Trans), rockabilly ( Everybody's Rockin') and country ( Old Ways) music - none of which were terribly meaningful or deeply felt.
When people think about Neil Young at the height of his powers, the default thought goes to his oft-praised 1970s era. But Landing on Water arrived in an equally intriguing moment, as we found a restless Young discontent with plowing the same old row.
Will this ever get made? Probably not, but the article below details everything to happen both in '07 when the trailer (part of Tarantino's Grindhouse) came out and the many further rumblings, last of which was around 2015.....The Horror!!
Greetings once again, this one washed up on my shore via a really cool horror movie streaming service called Shudder. (They offer a one-week free trial and a monthly subscription is 4.99.) The doc is about Richard Stanley and how he became to be involved with the 1996 remake of Island Of Dr Moreau, what happened during his short reign as director and the if you'll excuse the pun, the bloody aftermath. A great watch and using my Pinewoods Rating System give Lost Soul Three & 1/2 Pinewoods.....The Horror!!
One of the all-time greatest cinematic train wrecks is given blow-by-blow chronicling in "Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau." The creation of the H.G. Wells' story's third official screen incarnation was beset by disasters even more bizarre than the delirious mess of a feature finally released in 1996, with stars Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer reportedly rivaling even Mother Nature as destructive on-set forces.
Starring Richard Stanley, Marlon Brando, Val Kilmer, Nelson de la Rosa Directed by David Gregory This screened at Texas Frightmare Weekend 2015 immediately following Despite The Gods, the documentary about similar happenings with Jennifer Lynch, and they're odd companion pieces.... Thanksgiving horror movies are few and far between.Funny thing is, what few top lists there are, this 1981 catastrophe is usually included. It actually has to be as it is really the only slasher to ever be centered around the holiday. Happen to remember "Body By Jake"? Yep, and he has to be very possibly the worst actor to ever come down the pike. Home Sweet Home did not qualify for any Pinewoods and so subsequently has been recognized with a special honor- the Ruined Turkey award....The Horror!!
As you'll remember from my review of Blood Rage, I'm trying to crank out as many Thanksgiving related movies as I can this week. Next up was Home Sweet Home, also known as Slasher in the House and Bloodparty. Wait, BLOODPARTY?! That's clearly the best name of them all and not referring to this movie officially as Bloodparty...
Eli Roth's contribution to Grindhouse , the faux Thanksgiving trailer, excited everyone for some Turkey Day slashing. After all, nearly ever other holiday has had its...er, day in horror history, so why not Thanksgiving? Unbeknownst to many, that was a question that was answered 2 decades earlier with Home Sweet Home.

Being a fan of the 1965 original, I went into watching this with the same trepidationI've approached other 21st century remakes- complete skepticism. I must say this was better than I expected but overall not the most worthy endevour, considering how many talented writers there are in LA. But anywayssss, the good - the crash scene is excellent for all the obvious reasons, I really like how they did the smugglers and bandits that they come across in the desert, much better than the original. And the movie's one saving grace is the performance given by my man Giovanni Ribisi who takes the original Richard Attenborough role and somehow makes it even more creepier and esoteric. The bad- Dennis Quaid looks like he walked right onto the set from the Riviera Country Club and his fake smile gets old fast- Jimmy Stewart he's NOT. Hugh Laurie is totally out of place with this group, he's just meant to do stuff like House where he is the man, ya dig? Nice to see Miranda Otto but she is also miscast. Using my Pinewoods Rating System, this remake gets Two & 1/2 Pinewoods, without Giovanni,Two Pinewoods.....The Horror!!
"Flight of the Phoenix" is a fairly faithful remake of the 1965 adventure classic, with no big surprises, But it uses special effects to create scenes unavailable to the earlier film, including sensational sandstorms, a detailed crash sequence and a convincing takeoff.
Having not seen the original yet, I took the opportunity to buy the 2004 remake of Flight of the Phoenix after reading so many reviews saying how awful it was.
