Greetings folks, hope this eve finds you all horrified- Prince's work for the Batman movie and the album that followed is one of his most neglected and unappreciated projects. The centerpiece of the album is a track called BAT DANCE which was the first recorded and formed the early sessions and was released as a single two weeks before the movie came out. Not surprising, there's a slew of different versions and remixes and we have put two of the best for you below including a cool new remix....The Horror!!

PRINCE'S FORAY INTO JAZZ FUSION - The least selling album in the entire Prince catalog is one of those creations I just love turning people on to over the years. Entirely instrumental and improvised, four tracks of exactly 14:00 each called North, East, West, South. Each piece is slightly different in genre, one is more funk than jazz and the whole album of course is....The Horror!!

"Needless to say, this aimless studio jam is not what fans are used to hearing from him, even given his eclectic and exploratory nature, and this is not the kind of album he might have been expected to deliver if he were still working for an established record company instead of putting out his own discs. SATURDAY SURPRISE PRINCE TRIBUTE! - THOH STYLE THE HORROR OF A SONG CALLED "LAY DOWN"

LAY DOWN is a hidden track on the 2010 album. It is technically track 77 as the other 9 tracks are followed by tracks 10-76, each of which contain 5 to 6 seconds of silence. Compared to the rest of the album proper (which got mostly poor reviews) it's a much heavier track. In usual astounding fashion, Prince did the whole thing, all instruments and producing. The only other players are 3 back-up singers, various ladies that have worked with Prince in the past. Of course this is the song that he decides to play on the Lopez show to promote the record. And what a performance it is, complete with staging and dancers once again reminding us of this incredible talent. One may say he left us too early. Maybe say he was so far ahead of us he simply moved on....The Horror!!

I don't know about YOU, but I could definitely use me a laugh or two right abouts now. Sheesh, what a week You like silly stap-stick kind of 70's comedies? Then this one is for you. A big fav of mine although I have noticed through the years that not all my friends share the same opinion...The Horror!!

Something of an aberration among '70s live-action offerings from Walt Disney Productions, The Boatniks is a straightforward comedy with a romantic subplot. It doesn't feature animals or children, and it doesn't showcase special effects (excepting process shots of submarines) or supernatural elements.

Here's a nice dandy slice of bootleg history- the very first title put out by legendary Wizardo Records. He went on to mainly be a Beatles  boot label but then spread out slightly to some other artists. The MSG '72 show of Lennon and gang has of course been put out six ways to Sunday, there is a complete explanation below about all the vinyl boots from the only man qualified to tackle such a mountain, Mr Amazing Kornyphone himself!.....The Horror I say, The Horror!!

When I worked as an advisor at Brooks Film School, one of my students turned me on to this cool doc. Poor people living underground in the train tunnels and what their life is like. It has a happy twist towards the end when Amtrak goes to evict them but the filmmaker himself lands up bartering a deal that get's them straight into low-level housing..A horrific ending! ;-)

Additional Notes - 4/25 - Sound is a bit muddy, sounds like a cassette tape some schnook recorded off his radio should sound like, B+ area, too bad cause John and gang are in top form, very tight and John's voice is excellent on this. 

DOUBLE-SHOT OF GRAHAM PARKER 1996! - THE FIGGS JOIN IN FOR 'THE LAST ROCK N ROLL HORROR'

Some people are in charge of pens that shouldn't be in charge of brooms, they have the nerve to rip up a man's life in a paragraph or two, and the aeroplanes get hijacked and all the americans get killed, and our children are addicted to a sugar-coated pill - "Don't Let It Break It Down"

It used to be pretty easy to find one of these and cheap as well, but as the years have rolled by it's now considered out-of-print and hard-to-find. GP does have a small amount of these left over and posted on his site for only 11.95 and I would recommend you grab it. This is a tour-ending full show in a club in Albany with a 22-song set that pulls from over 11 GP albums with the band that was meant to back him. If you just want to own one GP album, this is the one!....The Horror!!

The Last Rock 'n' Roll Tour draws heavily from Parker's last studio album, Acid Bubblegum, including seven songs from that album. Among these songs the highlights are razor-sharp versions of "Impenetrable" and "She Never Let Me Down." The Last Rock'n'Roll Tour also includes a good cross-section of songs from throughout Parker's career.

Greetings folks - Double-shot of GP '96 being wheeled out to the main track. The only thing that could have made this album better is if the Figgs has done it with him. Better late than never, they did accompany him on this album's subsequent tour. Not that the guys on this one are any slouches, we have the old Rumours bassist on hand and GP covers guitar work across the board. A solid rock album, one of his best and very overlooked.....The Horror!!

Greetings once again! In keeping with all things Bling, here's some info on the FIRST movie, the TV movie by Lifetime. A more faithful and even-tempered telling of the true story, most movie fans don't even know there was a 2011 version. We're not talking any major cinematic achievements here either but imho a better Bling Thing, using my Pinewoods Rating System, the original Bling Ring gets Two & 1/2 Pinewoods....The Horror!!

WRAPPING THE WEEK UP WITH 'BLING RING 20 13!' - WHAT HAPPENED SOFIA? THE SHEER HORROR!

When I first heard Sofia Coppola would be doing a film based on the now legendary group of San Fernando Valley brats that like to rip off celebrity's houses, you could have peeled me off the ceiling. I figured she'd bring her unique touch to the story ya dig? Yikes, what a misfire. I just simply do not get why she chose to mega-glorify these punks and stick with that through the whole picture. Then there's the sloppy cops segment at the end which puts the final nail in. It is with sadness that using my Pinewoods Rating System, I give The Bling Ring and the Coppola name One Lousy Pinewood on an unkempt road.....The Horror!!

Those of you more experienced bootleg fans can sit this one out, ya dig? Talk among yourselves while I address the rookies- This is the holy grail of Clash bootlegs- the big enchilada, the big cheese, the double cheeseburger. Clash headline a fest in Jamaica and land up going on at 4 in the morning and totally kill it. Some of the in-between song comments by Strummer are classic including threatening to bring on the Grateful Dead. All this in a HQ soundboard that for extensive purposes could pose as a real live album. It's seen a few releases since the first in 1994 and this one, a 2004 Italy release is generally considered the best sound. Enjoy a show that really proves why they are considered "the only band that matters." The Horror!!

ELVIS PRESLEY 1976! - ULTRA RARE TENNESSEE SHOW A FAIRLY GOOD AUDIENCE CAPTURE - THE HORROR!

The King on tour in '76 boards his rock star plane, the Lisa Marie. There are SO many Elvis boots with stellar sound quality that it almost seems pointless to try and dig on one with a B+ audience. Not one I'd pull off the shelf on a regular basis but it is interesting to hear an Elvis show with the full sound of an excited audience. And excited this Tennessee audience is, a cool and different show courtesy of recommended blog Bootleg Kingdom and can be found at this link. You can also sample Hound Dog to check the sound quality for your own tastes before downing the whole show....The Horror!!

THE WEEKEND IS HERE AND IT'S "PAYDAY"! - 1973 FILM RIP TORN AS A BURNT COUNTRY STAR THE HORROR

Without a doubt, one of Rip Torn's shining moments as he slips effortlessly but perfectly into the role of Maury Dann, a feisty burned out ego-starved country star on the road. Highly recommend, and using my Pinewoods Rating System a worthy and generous Three & 1/2 Pinewoods and a must for lovers of 70's cinema or movies like The Conversation and The Swimmer....The Horror!!
