WHATEVER YOU DO, "DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE"! - 1980 B-STALKER FLICK IS TRULY THE....HORROR!!

The Horror!! - Despite it's abundance of sleeze. it's hard not to like this 1980 slasher, chock full of great Hollyweird locations (love that shot in front of Gazzari's with the KWEST stickers) and one of the cheesiest acting performances ever by lead actor Nicolas Worth. Pinewoods Rating System - Two Pinewoods....The Horror!!

Don't Answer the Phone! (Robert Hammer, 1980)

The seediness of Hollywood circa 1980 is yet again explored with a graceless morass in the inappropriately titled Don't Answer the Phone!Inappropriate because the act of picking up a ringing telephone will not endanger your life in this film (the original title The Hollywood Strangler is much more apt).

Don't Answer the Phone

A popular exploitation flick unleashed during the height of the stalker/slasher craze, DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE was blasted by critics upon release, but has developed a strong fanbase mainly due to its star, Nicholas Worth.

BOINGO-TOBER 5! - RARE 1980 LA SHOW LOCATION UNKNOWN + REMASTER OF I'M AFRAID - THE HORROR!

Holy Guacamole, Boingo-Tober 5 is coming close to the finish line. Without a doubt I can tell you, this has been one fun month and so nice to see the responses. Tonight's entry is a very rare show I obtained in a trade around 2004 and have never been able to pinpoint the specifics on it. This we know- it's in LA, the year is 1980 and the month is probably January as Danny says "Happy new decade" before Open Eyes. I suspect Wong's West or East, might be Whisky. Strangely enough the sound is equally mysterious, but muddy soundboard cassette is what I would guess. It has very early versions of Something Isn't Right and Rawhide, song list below AND a new THOH remaster of I'm Afraid from this same cd-r. It's much better than the cd, came out great. PAT GARRET & BILLY THE KID AT AGE 43! - REVISITING ONE OF THE BEST WESTERNS EVER- THE HORROR!

Okay I'll admit I'm a little buyist on this one considering I went to school with James Coburn's son and got to see their Bel Air house on occasion and Kris is a good friend of an old sax player in my bands, but first and foremost I'm a Peckinpah fan and this is one of the really great Westerns of all time. Pinewoods Rating System - Five Pinewoods....The Horror!!

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973)

A critical favorite whose enviable reputation stems from lingering fascination with director Sam Peckinpah and the mystique that attaches to any serious movie altered by studio interference, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid has many virtues that are not immediately apparent-it's like one of those classic novels that makes more sense after one learns about the context surrounding the novel's creation.

The Wildest Western Ever Made

A lot can be said about Sam Peckinpah's western ' Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid,' on this, the 40th anniversary of its release, but you have to start with the fact that the story behind this startling, savage movie is just about as startling and savage as the film itself.

Peckinpah would start drinking on the set first thing each morning, and by the afternoon he would be loaded and walking around firing a revolver into the air. At night he'd lie in bed shooting at his reflection in the mirror, a drunken outburst that made its way into the movie when, after killing Billy, Garrett, in a bout of self-hatred and disgust, shoots to pieces his own reflection in a mirror. At one point, "I had to take a pistol away from Sam," says Kristofferson. "He was worrying some people."

"Dead Man's Party" is a song by American band Oingo Boingo released as the third single from their fifth studio album Dead Man's Party. The lyric "I hear the chauffeur coming to my door/Says there's room for maybe just one more" is a reference to "The Bus-Conductor", a short story involving a hearse driver by E.

THOH ROLLS A "HARD EIGHT" ON HUMP DAY! - 1996 PT ANDERSON 1ST FILM IS A VEGAS SHEER HORROR

John C Reilly & Phillip Baker Hall in an ensemble piece? What's not to like! Now, let's get one thing clear- I happen to think PT Anderson is the Stanley Kubrick of our time and no other director out there right now can match his brilliance. This however, is his 1st full feature and while you can spot the "green around the gills" here and there, it's still an excellent indie picture and a bit swept under the rug. So here we are to exhibit this unique horror, you can read some real reviews below but trust me Baker Hall, Reilly & Anderson just by themselves make this a winner and there are many more unmentioned pluses....The Horror!! Pinewoods Rating System - Three Pinewoods.

Paul Thomas Anderson: HARD EIGHT (1996)

Notable Festivals: Sundance, Cannes (Un Certain Regard) Screening his short film CIGARETTES & COFFEE at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival was a transformative event in director Paul Thomas Anderson's career. Not only was he invited to workshop his film in the Sundance Institute's prestigious Directors Lab, but he was also approached by producer Robert Jones, who offered his assistance in expanding the film into a feature.

ROD STEWART 1992! - 2/14 SHOW & MY ENCOUNTER W/ A FLESH-EATING ZOMBIE - THE HORROR!!

Your eyes are not deceiving you, it's the same show, in fact Rod did about 5 wardrobe changes in this February 14th 1992 concert that I had the great luck of being in attendance at. First time ever sharing this concert story but you see, it all started up at a little place on a hill called Rafter's, a swanky Burbank bar/restaurant place that I used to love to go up during happy hour and hoist a few. There was this other cat named Jeff I used to see there often and we were all talking about it being St Valentine's day and Jeff says to me do you know Rod Stewart is playing tonight at the Universal Amphitheater? Very dangerous to make a comment like that to me, and with my instigation within a matter of an hour Jeff and I had cruised down to the venue, scored decent loge tickets and were watching Rod do what turned into a really great 2-set show. Turns out Rod was filming the whole show for this video. Now I had never got drunk with this guy Jeff before so I didn't know that 1) he would turn out to be a lightweight and was shitfaced before end of Rod's first set. After the show, he was in no condition to do anything so I told him he could come to my place, sleep on the couch and we'll go back next day for his car. He must of asked me five times on the way home if I had anything to eat at my house and I kept telling him no, that I just wanted him to go in and sleep it off on the downstairs couch. He asked me one more time when we got it and I told him same thing and I go upstairs to crash. Now as it turns out, I was lying just a bit as I did have some leftovers from a BBQ I had a couple of days prior. Before getting in bed, I decided all of a sudden that I wanted some water or something from the fridge. I go downstairs and walk into my kitchen and here's this guy standing in my open fridge with a chicken leg in his left hand and a beef rib in his right. They were both already partially devoured and his was drooling all sorts of stuff on his shirt. Yes, the horror the Sheer Horror!!

BOINGO-TOBER 5! - THE HORROR KNOWN AS "MADAME WONG'S REMASTERED" - MAY 1980 SHOW

A pleasant horrific evening to you wherever you may reside- Boingo-Tober 5 heads into the home stretch with one of my original creations, "Madame Wong's West Remastered." The source tape was a soundboard of the show on May 17, 1980, a Friday night. Roughly a decade back, I loaded the audio onto a 24-track recording studio and if you'll excuse the expression- had at it. While doing it I determined that a couple of the songs were not their greatest performance and since I was going thru all the trouble to do the sound, might as well make it best of the best....The Horror!! 7daylink

DR. BLACK & MR. HYDE 1976A scientist employed at a Free Medical Clinic in Watts has concocted a serum with the power to regenerate dead liver cells.

Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde (1976)

While it's far from the worst blaxploitation horror flick-compared to Blackenstein (1973), anything is a masterpiece-this Afrocentric riff on Robert Louis Stevenson's immortal novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is not good.

TAKE A TRIP THROUGH "DAMNATION ALLEY"! - 1977 POST WORLD WAR III B-MOVIE SCI FI - THE HORROR!

Now officially considered a "cult" movie, I liken Damnation Alley to part desert road trip movie, part ABC movie of the week and part Food Of The Gods. You can read some real reviews below, using my Pinewoods Rating System however, we award Damnation Alley the highest B-movie rating Two & 3/4 Pinewoods....The Horror!!

CULT MOVIE REVIEW: Damnation Alley (1977)

In the year 1977, executives at 20th Century Fox believed very firmly that that they were sitting on the science fiction gold mine of the year. And it wasn't George Lucas's Star Wars they were so revved up about, but rather Jack Smight's Damnation Alley , a loose adaptation of Roger Zelazny's 1969 post-apocalyptic novel.

Damnation Alley (1977) - Review | Mana Pop

Hollywood loves a good disaster movie and one of the popular sub-genres of that is the post-apocalyptic film where heroes must survive in a topsy-turvy world after some natural or man-made disaster. In the case of Damnation Alley they decided to adapt a novel by science fiction author Roger Zelazny that dealt with life after a nuclear war.
