LOOK OUT AROUND THIS BEND, IT'S "MUSTANG COUNTRY"! - 1976 OBSCURE WESTERN HORROR

The chase is on to capture a wild mustang of the most
majestic kind and there's a generous bounty for the
hunt. As you can see from the art there's the presence
of just a few animals along the way and this is
where the film skyrockets into the great film
category. The casting of the animals, however
that went about is just brilliant. The black mustang
used is gorgeous and performs some of the
greatest stunts this movie-lover has ever seen.
The dog that belongs to the entourage is also
amazing and I lost count halfway in to how
many animals are shown. However, at no time
does it stop being a Western and that's what makes
this one so great. Four Solid Palm Trees for this
nice ole G rated Western....The Horror!!

VINCENT GALLO IS "JOHNNY 316" - 1998 INDIE W GALLO AS A STREET PREACHER - THE HORROR!!

Hollywood Blvd in 1998, it's death rattle of sleaze before
becoming the tourist arena it now is...The Horror!!
A miss in every sense of the word, this indie suffers
from the worst malady that could plague a career-
first-time-director-itis. Everything is pretty much
wasted here as a result and it's a shame because
the story has a lot going for it and Gallo is in the
zone with his acting. Using my Palm Springs
Rating System, I give Johnny 316 One &
1/2 Palm Trees, mostly for the cool scenery
of Hollywood Blvd....The Horror!!

Review: ‘Johnny 316’

A true curio for Vincent Gallo's hardcore fan club, vet musicvid director Erick Ifergan's "Johnny 316" takes Oscar Wilde's "Salome" and transfers it to Hollywood Boulevard. This "Sally" never dances, but she does meander the boulevard in a movie that similarly wanders and never finds a groove, tone or point of view.

Review of the lost Vincent Gallo starrer JOHNNY 316

Take away the NY and we get one of the most quoted bible passages, John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

ROLLINS BAND 2000! - REVISITING SOMETHING CALLED "GET SOME, GO AGAIN" - THE SHEER HORROR

A horrific evening to you all, revisiting a slightly
overlooked heavy metal gem known as Get Some
Go Again, ya dig? Sad as it is, by the time this
album came out Rollins Band was already a bit of a
passing fad, so the album was slightly overlooked.
And what an album it is. This was his first outing
with a band called Mother Superior as backing
and they recorded if you'll excuse me a shitload
of horrors. A lot of different versions exist
with songs and song order and if you're really
bold the whole sessions themselves on a 2-cd
package called Get Some Go Sessions. There
were basically 13 core songs on the original
like the cassette above, 14 on the official
you tube below...The Sheer Horror!

THE NAME OF THE BAND IS "FRIDGE" YA DIG? - THE ALBUM IS 'THE SUN' AN EXPERIMENTAL HORROR

A fun and critically acclaimed album, instrumental post-
rock basically, brilliant band from the UK, great to
throw on when you need to reflect on whatever,
also plays great with a Cure album l-)

Fridge: The Sun

About a decade removed from its mid-90s heyday, post-rock has largely succumbed to the same musical limitations it originally set out to obliterate. Torch-bearers Tortoise settled into a predictable, off-kilter groove with 2004's It's All Around You and riff-monsters like Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky sound less triumphant and more manipulative with every touchdown-worthy crescendo.

HIS NAME IS JON SAINT AND "IT AIN'T EASY BEING A SAINT", YA DIG? - NYC ROCK RAPPER HORROR

Those of you long time visitors have probably seen this before but for those of you that haven't, here's the Reader's Digest version- in '04 I was scouring the net for emerging artists and came across this guy's mp3's. The first song I heard was his brilliant version of Elton John's Rocket Man (included here) and asI listened to each song, it was like the guy was talking straight to me, you know how that goes. I was fortunate to get him on the phone a few weeks later and we had a cool coast to coast conversation where I quickly concluded he was as nuts as I am, The Horror!! ;-)

THE HORROR THAT IS "REDEFINING THE REMIX"! - 2010 ALBUM BY YOURS TRULY DIVERSE & PROGGY

Greetings - Tonight's horrors are going to come from weird,
diverse and not so well known artists so what better
place to start than me! 2010 album was the last of a
string of 13 albums from '05 to '10. The concept was
to use mostly old material and instead (or besides
might be a better word) of remixing them, rebuild
them and twist them into different shapes and forms.
New "coda" instrumentals were added on most
of the 7 selections with a lot of sloppy guitar
work by the king of slop himself- me! I do still like
this one though, it is a nice kalidescope of genres
in rock, a couple of comments from internet sites
reviewing- "Twice as diverse as the average singer
-songwriter" "I've never heard an album with so many
different styles of rock yet it gels wonderfully" Enjoy!
Formal track listing-
1 Magic Flute (Psychedelic Flower Girl Mix)
2 When The Daylight Comes (The Dedicated To Ian Hunter In Three Acts Mix)
3 Revolution Reggae Chant (The Complete 24 Track Version)
4 Identity (The Double Drummer Jam Mix)
5 The Dream (The Extended Dream Mix)
6 Partridge-O-Rama (The I Still Have A Crush On Susan Dey Mix)
7 Day By Day (The Crystal Ball Version)
8 Dethrone The Champ (Dedicated To McD Mix)

THE HORROR THAT IS "SMOKEY BITES THE DUST"! - 1981 DRIVE-IN MOONSHINE CAR CHASING FLICK

With one foot in moonshine exploitation and one foot in
Smokey & The Bandit, this Roger Corman drive-in
fare is not half-bad and not half-good. The acting is
some of the very worst possible. The film is basically
one long series of chases and some of the stunts
are quite nice. There's a bit of a general goofiness
throughout. This is one of those that is so bad
you can't help at laugh at it all. Using my Palm
Springs Rating System, this one gets a paltry
One & 1/2 Palm Tree....The Horror!!

Smokey Bites The Dust (1981)

In the world of cheap, exploitative, disposable drive-in flicks, Roger Corman stands proudly atop a heap of celluloid monstrosities that have given many a movie theater maven pause for concern. This is a worldview, after all, where cheap is good, fast is better and profitable is best. And all three...

TRASH FILM GURU VS. SMOKEY BITES THE DUST (1981) - Daily Grindhouse

Back in the halcyon days of 1981, you'd have been hard-pressed to find two more popular slang terms in the English language than "Smokey" - a catch-all euphemism for any and all members of our nation's law enforcement community - and "bites the dust" - which meant, of course, to get killed.

STONES 1973! - ANNUAL NOD TO "ALL MEAT MUSIC" A LOW KEY AFFAIR THIS YEAR - THE HORROR!!

Greetings folks - It's that time of year again where I pay
tribute to a concert that at the age of 11 changed my life
in a major way. If you're new to the blog or missed this
somehow, you will enjoy what follows which is an essay
I wrote in 2010 about my experience at the concert at
that age, an excellent quality vinyl rip hand picked
by yours truly from several vinyl rips, the Rolling Stone
article at the time of the show written by Ben Fong
Torres himself and of course lots of pics...enjoy!
In January of 1973 the Stones threw a quickly planned benefit concert at the Los Angeles Forum on the heels of an earthquake in Nicaragua which of course came to be known as the Nicaraguan Benefit Concert.

I was 11 years old and a Stones freak, and I recall the night vividly. Starting with sitting with my mom and the row in front of us, the entire row was passing joint after joint in front of mom and 11 year old.
Santana opened the night and they played an hour. I believe their album at the time was Caravansarai and I do remember that their set was mostly jamming and instrumental with no major hits played. It almost seemed like one long hour jam.

Cheech & Chong then came on with a 30 minute run-thru of all their famous routines. They were at the top of their career with "Basketball Jones" being a hit at the time. I remember their last routine being this thing where they pretended to be dogs and were chasing each other around on stage on all fours.

Speaking of stage, it is interesting to note that it was an all white stage specifically designed for this concert only (as far as I know, please correct me if I'm wrong.) The stage had a catwalk on the very top in back running horizontally with white row lights. There was supposed to have been a riser for Charlie that would have been very high up but Charlie was afraid to get on it as Jagger comments on it during the concert.
I also remember the Stones took forever to come on, in typical fashion. Jagger was wearing a never before seen turquoise colored jumpsuit with sequins all over it and a white head band which was slightly unusual for him, he was also very heavy on the eye make-up that night The jumpsuit was indeed very enthralling as it was talked about a lot at the show and after by the media.

As you can hear on the recording, there was a festive and celebratory vibe in the air. It was definately a feel-good show that night, all positive and fun. The Stones turn in a good sold performance and the set list is a Stones fans dream come true with most of the 1972 tour set being used, sprinkled with great choices just for that night, like "No Expectations," "Route 66" and "Stray Cat Blues" amongst others. I remember my mom and I bailing during SFM to avoid the crowd rush out, supposedly they did a rare encore that night of Midnight Rambler, but I've heard this both true and disputed so not sure. The taper of this famous bootleg runs out of tape right near the end of SFM which is too bad cause it's a blistering version and the tape cuts in the middle of a great Mick Taylor solo.

Speaking of Mick Taylor, if you have not heard this boot before, he wails throughout and is very loud, louder than everyone else on the recording. While I'm not sure this is a Mike Millard, I suspect it might be. If so, it would be the only one that I know of where we actually get to hear his voice on tape as whoever taped this speaks at the very beginning of the tape, sounds like he's in his car on the way to the show. Whoever did tape this was clearly stage right and in a direct line with Taylor's amps. It is a very good audience recording for it's time.

The artwork for this classic Trade Mark of Quality vinyl bootleg was truly one of Wililam Stout's best pieces and the version I originally owned of this was a first pressing, the only ones that had this artwork printing directly on the outside front, as apposed to the usual paper inserted under plastic wrap. The vinyl on sides 1&2 were this kind of splash Spirograph looking pattern of black white and grey and the other lp was completely clear. I have seen lots of subsequent verisons including one that had orange and green lp's. It is also very interesting to note that there was definately some kind of defect in the actual pressing that made the records because every copy I've ever heard, even ones fresh out of the sleeve have some kind of scratch sounds here and there.
As far as I know, the master tape has never surfaced anywhere and the only versions out there are all recorded from one of the vinyl pressings. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you've never heard it or need a new copy, link is below. Enjoy, I can definitely say I'm very proud to have been there, it was a special night.
**I have several vinyl rips, but this one is the best.

The Rolling Stones A Smash at Nicaragua Benefit

LOS ANGELES - A depressed Mick Jagger had said he'd allot a couple minutes each to the three TV networks before the show. He wanted to talk about Nicaragua and Japan: Nicaragua's earthquake victims, for whom the Stones were here at the Forum, with Santana and Cheech & Chong; Japan's refusal of visas, the reason the Stones suddenly found themselves with an expensive two weeks empty in their tour of the Pacific.
