The Horror!! - George Romero's 4th entry in the Living Dead series is this 2005 fairly entertaining flick which I got to check out last night. The special effects take another step forward to the front and while I think it's a good picture, it doesn't up "Day Of" and "Day Of" didn't up "Dawn Of" and...well you get the idea. Using my internationally world famous Pinewoods Ratings System, I give this one a mediocre Two Pinewoods....The Horror!!
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" has lost its meaning. --Dennis Hopper in "Land of the Dead" Now this is interesting. In the future world of "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead," both zombies and their victims have started to evolve.
Land of the Dead - also known as George A. Romero's Land of the Dead - is a 2005 post-apocalyptic horror film written and directed by George A. Romero; the fourth of Romero's six Living Dead movies, it is preceded by Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, and succeeded...

Did someone say it's Friday, well I better pick a flipside. Pink Floyd's sixth album "Meddle," which I have on reel-to-reel tape (remember this?), was considered by many their finest album prior 1973's release of "Dark Side of the Moon." The album was released on EMI's Harvest Records in October 1971.

Now ladies and gentlemen, we ask you to direct your attention to one of our very first exhibits, it's.....
To say Taking Woodstock was a box office bomb isan understatement, returning just under 10 mil on a 30 mil budget. "Flawed masterpiece" is a term that's tossed around now and then, it's very hard to define in words but you sure know it when you see it. In this movie lover's personal opinion, this is one such work. I'll let you read some real reviews below but my first and foremost opinion on why it was so ill received is the wide array of characters, some unnecessary especially the Emile Hersh role as a crazy Vietnam vet. But it's based on a book that I read and they're all part of the real story, I'm sure Mr Lee had his challenges bringing it all to life on the screen. I'm just guessing, but I also imagine the casting choice of Demitri Martin in lead caused some stir, but I happen to think it's awesome as well as the whole rest of the cast. Jonathon Gruff is outstanding as Michael Lang. May surprise some but I give Taking Woodstock Three & 1/2 Pinewoods....The Horror!!
Luckily I saw "Woodstock" again in April, so it was fresh in my mind while watching "Taking Woodstock," Ang Lee's entertaining film about the kid who made it all possible - in Woodstock, anyway. This is Elliot Teichberg, a young interior designer who leaves a New York career to return home to upstate New York and help his parents bail out their failing, shabby motel.
Ang Lee's agreeable comedy looks at the now-legendary music festival through the eyes of the Catskills motel owners who, in the summer of 1969, found themselves at the center of a counter-culture event. Critic Scott Tobias says it's like making the gravedigger the hub of a Hamlet remake.

Lene Lovich? Wall Of Voodoo? Hmmmm, anyone see a pattern here? The new wave blast continues with a look at the 4th Motels album, a very overlooked horror indeed. Spawned the hits "Suddenly Last Summer," "Trust Me" and "Remember The Nights" all great Martha Davis tunes, Allmusic.com calls it a perfect balance of conventional rock and new wave....The Horror we say, The Horror!!
Plain and simple- a new wave masterpiece. It took em forever to get it out on digital but alas you too can own this album be it vinyl, cassette or mp3 and the world is a more horrific place as a result. They broke the mold with this album, hard to top it. You can take your "Mexican Radio" song and take it or leave it, ya dig? This is the real Wall Of Voodoo that hit in 80 and 81....The Horror!!

Willem Dafoe is in superb form in this excellent Australian flickwe've featured a couple times before. Assigned to find one of the last remaining Tasmanian tigers in existence, has his company told him all he needs to know about the hunt....The Horror!! Pinewoods Rating System - Four Tall Pinewoods.
Hunting is a longstanding metaphor in the movies. From the great explorer films of the early years such as The Lost World and King Kong, through to westerns, and later classics such as The Deer Hunter and White Hunter Black Heart, directors have used nature and the chase to depict man confronting his inner self, wrestling with his wild ego and his civilised id.
"The Hunter," filmed in Tasmania, has the faintly surreal look peculiar to Australian movies in which nature pulses with a mysterious, primordial shimmer. Adapted from Julia Leigh's novel and directed by Daniel Nettheim from a screenplay by Alice Addison, the film tells the story of a lone hunter from another continent searching for a creature that may not exist in an old-growth forest largely untouched by humans.
