REVISITING A LITTLE SOMETHING CALLED "STEPPENWOLF THE SECOND" - FOLLOW-UP HORROR!

One of the greatest follow-up albums in rock history.
"A year before the Beatles Abbey Road, Steppenwolf had a multi-song second side medley in similar form. “Disappointment Number (Unknown)” contains slide blues guitar and a really sparse and laid back arrangement before it finally gives way to the full band with fine bass, drums, and honky-tonk piano by McJohn. Later it unexpectedly breaks out of blues riff and ends slightly with live bar sound before it quickly segues directly to “Lost and Found By Trial and Error” as a continuation blues song moving through several new forms with the guitars sounding sharp and fine. The jam continues with organ taking lead through the instrumental “Hodge, Podge, Strained Through a Leslie”, which leads to the intense climax of “Resurrection” as the extended arc piece gets closer to conclusion with the theme “Shake Your Money Maker” repeated until rudiments complete the jam part. The short “after” piece “Reflections” is some soft Baroque with heavy reverb" - Classic Rock Review.

BOINGO-TOBER ON THURSDAY NIGHT! - THE YEAR IS 1987 - NEW ALBUM HALLOWEEN HEAVEN

1987 is the year Boingo released my least favorite
album simply titled BOI-NGO. A safer straight 
down the middle of the road sound with most
of the angst missing, the album does have great
songwriting of course, my favorites being Home
Again, My Life and Pain. The album did very
well though for the band and it is an important
one in that regard. Dead Man's Party started 
the spark and this album sealed the deal for
their Los Angeles contingency, now it was
official- Los Angeles was totally in love
with Oingo Boingo, no turning back.
"Oingo Boingo have shortened their name to the more direct "Boingo," but their music hasn't changed. It remains the warped, party-friendly dance music that it always has been, only with fewer memorable meloidies, jokes, or hooks. Boingo will satisfy some devoted fans, but most will want to stick with the greatest hits collection." - allmusic

Really digging the response this year, F Yeah!
Tonight the Boingo time machine stops on 1990.
Dark At The End Of The Tunnel is generally 
consider's their worst studio Lp but still a 
decent one. I pretty much agree with that, 
especially the production and general vibe
is generic and lacking passion. But if that be
the case then what was lacking in the studio
was sure made up in their live performances
as the band's frantic level of output onstage
really just got better and better with each
passing year. 1990's Halloween show at
Irvine was probably the best of the 6 or 7
years they did Irvine. A whopping 35 songs,
the 10/25/90 show is a stellar performance
and a must-have for Boingo fans, we put
the video and bootleg for ya below, enjoy!

Oingo Boingo's leader, Danny Elfman, began cataloguing the various ways in which he has approached his favorite songwriting theme: death. "Living with, dancing with, running from, toying with, tricking, etc.," he said during a recent phone interview, ticking off all the subheadings under capital 'D' in the Oingo Boingo songbook.

Mikels as a savant of sorts, an indefatigable and perversely genius filmmaker with a cult following of folks who adore his no-budget flicks and revere him as a surviving visionary of the Ed Wood School of Campy and Bizarre Cinema.

This tape surfaced in the summer of 2000 on Electric Magic’s famous debut Mystical Majesties Request.  At the time it was stunning since nobody knew it even existed, much less being a complete, nice sounding tape of a very under-represented era in Led Zeppelin. Some of the tapes from their 1971 UK tour are listenable and enjoyable, but not near the quality of this.  The EC title was so good that it was rated the year’s best release on the now defunct Pressed Led website.  Almost two years after this, Empress Valley re-released the tape as Best For Hard N’ Heavy.  Collectors claimed this was superior to the Electric Magic release - Collector's Review     7daylink Rating A-

WAKE UP, IT'S 1984! - 'BOINGO-TOBER' ROCKS ON WITH THE YEAR THAT DANNY DID A SO-LO HORROR

As time has gone by both hardcore and casual
Boingo fans have come to accept this album 
for the brilliant piece of art that is is, but when
it came out, let me tell ya, us Boingo fans were
running around like chickens with their heads
cut off. WTF is this? Is he going solo? Is Boingo
already done? And why the hell are all the 
Boingo band members on here if it's a solo
album? All these concerns were also answered
with time and this album has certainly held up.
Why? Nine songs here that are Elfman-
classic and some of the best drum and
synth programming in the whole decade!

With his wild eyes outlined in black and a diabolical grin plastered on his face, Danny Elfman rarely strikes anyone as remotely mellow. The adjective more often used to describe Oingo Boingo's wound-up, irreverent leader is possessed.

GRAND FUNK IS 'CAUGHT IN THE ACT' 1975! - REVISITING ANOTHER OVERLOOKED LIVE ALBUM

Okay so I'm not sure if I would include this one in
the ole Tommy spiel about Made In Japan and
Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out but just about cause this
is one excellent live album! Grand Funk's been
very lucky in this area, both official live albums
and the later release Live 1971 Tour are all
great live albums. This one was produced by
legendary Jimmy Ienner who had just done
his magic the previous year with Three Dog
Night's Hard Labor and the sound on this
sticks to those standards. Nice crisp mix,
every song is a winner....The Horror!!

BOINGO-TOBER HEATS UP! - THE YEAR IS 1989 - SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET AND FLESH N BLOOD!

'89 was a bit of a transitional year with not very much
creative output or official releases. The band had
just come off of two years of touring and then
tracking and releasing Boingo Alive, a simulated
87 set list but recorded live in the studio, and then
toured again to promote that one. Notable events
are the inclusion of Flesh N Blood in Ghostbusters
2 and the release of that single and the release 
of a repackaging effort called Skeletons In
The Closet....The Horror!!
