SPIKE LEE TRIBUTE All Weekend - Hope You'll "GET ON THE BUS" which is the next one up, a 1996 Comedy Drama featuring an outstanding cast of acting veterans, this one's funny but very serious as well....THE HORROR!!

A great cast ensemble piece, some strong messages
but a great script and an awesome cast make it
funny where it needs to be and serious when it
needs to be. Always have dug this one, but be
forewarned, if you don't like films with lots
of dialog (this is almost like a play on wheels)
you probably wouldn't dig it then, ya dig?

SPIKE LEE TRIBUTE Begins! - mixed in with the other posts this weekend we're looking at some selected films from this amazing and now legendary director, starting off with a couple of the obvious ones like "INSIDE MAN" (2006)....THE HORROR!!

"I've seen the future of cinema
and his name is Spike Lee"
- John Pierson, indie film guru and producer
who invested and produced Spike's first few films.
This weekend I'm taking a look at some Spike Lee
favorites, both new and old. I see both Inside Man
and 25th Hour as the two films much more in the
mainstream than his others, Hollywood formula
stuff if you will, but they still have the Spike Lee
stamp on them. I totally dig Inside Man but
agree with Roger Ebert's review below that
the script could have used another going
over or two. Using my Palm Springs Rating
System, I give Inside Man Three Palm Trees.

Ultimate Classic Rock blog publishes "STONES ALBUMS, RANKED WORST TO BEST" list - TOMMY'S HOUSE OF HORRORS Responds With My Top Ten and a Few Extraneous Comments Regarding....THE HORROR!! (+ Mix)

So regarding the list from Ultimate Classic Rock
below, I will keep it short and sweet- The person
who compiled the list obviously knows nothing
about the Stones. Did I really say that? Ouch!
Well, everyone has their viewpoints....
Tommy's Top 10 List
1. Get Yer Ya Yas Out
2. Exile On Main Street
3. Goats Head Soup
4. It's Only Rock N Roll
5. Their Satanic Majesties Request
6. Black And Blue
7. Beggar's Banquet
8. Love You Live (Really side 3 only)
9. Sticky Fingers
10. Between The Buttons
Here's a mix cd I put together probably 15 years
ago with 20 of my favorite Stones songs
including some great bootleg cuts, (sorry no
song list, I edited the songs to run together
without space and there's 20 songs crammed
on one Cd-r pretty much to the last second 7daylink

over here, it's the "MOTHER LODE"! - Say What? 1982 Charlton Heston film where he directs and plays a old Irish miner, decent flick with some very nice aerial footage including a crash with a sea plane that wasn't supposed to happen....THE HORROR!!

I wouldn't even know about this one if it weren't for
it's inclusion in a 4-movie Charlton Heston dvd set
I got. Heston directs and stars and his son produces
this fairly interesting yarn with some nice locations
(Vancouver, BC) and a crash on water that wasn't
supposed to happen and since they had no funds
for another plane they rewrote the script to
include the crash. Enjoyable, using my Palm
Springs Rating System, I give this one a nice
solid Three out of Five Palm Trees, ya dig?

MICKEY DOLENZ 2012! - Remembering an album called "REMEMBER" and it's only 3 years since it came out, but I bet you've never heard of it, Mickey does tribute type album with Monkees songs thrown in....THE HORROR!!

This one came and went in a flash but that's the way
it is these days, nobody cares about albums anymore
ha ha but the fans and critics responded with five
star reviews in most cases because of Mickey's
tasteful re-arrangements of quality songs.
Highly recommend!
a few samples below, you just may recognize these
tunes but Mickey gives it his own spin.

JOHN LENNON is "Not A Martyr" in this slightly strange cd-r I got in a trade, it's a concert radio broadcast mixed in with interviews with Lennon, no other info but suspect the concert portions might be from MSG 1972?!....The Horror!!

found this old cd-r from trade at least a decade back
all that's written on it is John Lennon "Not A Martyr"
I put a sample of segment 1 here to check it out,

HOLLY HUNTER Is "LIVING OUT LOUD" in the House - 1998 Romantic Comedy (Sort Of) w/ DANNY DEVITO and QUEEN LATIFAH but it's all about Holly as she plays a woman going thru a divorce.....THE HORROR!!

Yes siree bob, this is one of those fly-under-the radar
films, i've turned quite a few friends on to this one
over the years, Holly Hunter in what could be her
greatest role, she does it all here, including dancing!
Great story, Devito is great as always, using my
Palm Springs Rating System, I give this one
Three & A Half Palm Trees on a cool eve.

"SHORT CUTS" inside the house of horrors! - 1993 Robert Altman film has an ensemble cast of close to 40 A-Listers and just for extra measure they threw in HUEY LEWIS....THE HORROR!!

The magnificent Robert Altman hit it out of the park
in 1993 with this amazing 3-hour comedy/drama.
It also is one of the only major films I can think of
that featured the whole helicopter malithyon thing
that was going on in LA at the time....and an
earthquake to boot! Using my Palm Springs
Rating System, I give this long-time fav
of mine Five Healthy Palm Trees,
the highest possible rating.
