KURT RUSSELL TRIBUTE! - JUST GETTING UNDER WAY WITH A 'BACKDRAFT' OF SHEER HORROR!

Hard to believe it's been 24 years since I sat in a theater
watching this for the first time. A huge hit in the theaters
and home video, it's hard not to like this Ron Howard
formula piece unless you have something against
firefighters ya dig? Everyone is excellent in it and
Kurt Russell is in the zone with his role as the
older brother, imo one of his best performances
acting-wise. The special fx in this one was ground-
breaking and watching it today, it doesn't look
one iota of dated. Hats off to the ole Backdraft,
next up the time machine pops over to the
late 70's for another KR gem....The Horror!!

DOUBLE SHOT OF 'FROM THE BLACK CROWES ARCHIVES!' - VERY RARE 2006 SHOW IN THE DESERT

Greetings all - Happy New Year to where it already applies!!
Here's a Crowes show probably the rarest in my vast archives.
I was in attendance on this one, it took place just outside
Palm Springs at the now defunct Key Club Morongo.
It was a Sunday night stop for them between two
big cities so they were wiped out and careless.
Usually at that kind of stop they would do a hits-filled
set but this was exactly the opposite with a strange
but wonderful set list opening up with Welcome
To The Goodtimes, hardly ever played.
Marc Ford had just quit about a week prior so
Paul Stacey was in his place and is one of the
more enjoyable things about this boot.

KURT RUSSELL TRIBUTE NEXT TWO DAYS! - AN ACTOR THAT'S AS AMERICAN AS APPLE HORROR PIE

1969's The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes
Greetings folks - honored that you decided to visit
as we end the year on an UP note ya dig, with an
actor that is an American icon. Not many successful
child actors have been capable of continuing on as
adults but this guy has been an unmovable rock
with an astounding 93 features to his name
and scores of memorable roles. So grab a bootleg
or check out one of the gazillion film blogs
we have here and by all means have a
very Horrific New Year!....T

AROUND THIS NEXT BEND IT'S THE HORROR OF "THE CANDY SNATCHERS"! - 1973 JOURNEY TO HELL

A very hard title to find in the genre, this 'hold child
for ransom' b-flick is not for the weak of heart. It's down-
right whacked out and disturbing, along the lines of
Trip With The Teacher and Wild Riders. It does
fortunately have a few redeeming factors with
both acting and photography and stars one of the
best b-movie lead actresses of the 70's, Tiffany
Bolling. A very decent print up on You Tube right
now, link below and using my Palm Springs Rating
System give The Candy Snatchers Two Palm
Trees...The Sheer Horror!!

MONDAY BOWIE NIGHT! - THE HORROR THAT IS 'DOLLARS IN DRAG' CLASSIC VINYL BOOT 1974

A delicious slice of bootleg history straight from Hollywood
Blvd circa 1974. Vinyl rip courtesy of Ed's Attic. More info-
"1984" contains the track "Dodo", but track title does not appear on release. Album includes gimmicks and voice overs between the tracks, including an advert for Hires, America's favorite root beer (first track side 2), a portion of the Marx Brothers "Everyone Says I Love You" from the movie 'Horse Feathers', track includes the part with Groucho Marx singing (track after "Time").

"Dollars In Drag" was made up of material from Bowie's "1980 Floor Show" and three songs from his Arnold Corns period, "Hang On To Yourself", "Supermen" and "Man In The Middle". "The 1980 Floor Show" was recorded on the 18th, 19th and 20th August 1973, and was broadcast on the 16th November 1973 (US only). It was recorded at The Marquee Club, 90 Wardour Street, Soho, London.

Track list is different to the actual TV broadcast track list, as the "NBC Midnight Special: The 1980 Floor Show" was filmed over three days and selected tracks over this period were collected for an one hour TV broadcast at a slightly later date. "Supermen", "Hang On To Yourself" and "Man In The Middle" were not broadcast during the NBC American special, although they are included on this bootleg. This version of "Supermen" is different to that on "The Man Who Sold The World" and is a lift from the triple album "Glastonbury Fayre".

Notes from review-
Rock legend David Bowie played an exclusive gig for less than 200 people in London - and filmed the show for his young daughter.
The 55-year-old performed the special gig at the BBC's Maida Vale studios in west London, which was recorded for a Radio 2 special to be broadcast next month.
He performed the track Bewlay Brothers - from his 1971 album Hunky Dory - live for the first time, but had to use lyric sheets to keep up, because, he said, "there are more words in this than War and Peace".
Bowie used a hand-held camera to capture parts of the show for his two-year-old daughter Alexandria back home with his wife Iman in New York.
"This is just to show my daughter exactly what sort of person I associate with," he said, focusing his lens on the fans.
The crowd for the invitation-only show included Radio 2 DJ Jonathan Ross, comedian Ricky Gervais, writer David Baddiel and BBC chairman Gavyn Davies.
Of the 10 songs he played, most came from his recent Heathen album, which saw him do battle with some of the UK's best up-and-coming artists for Tuesday night's Mercury Music Prize.
But he also played Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's Alabama Song - which was a single in 1980 - and Look Back in Anger from the Lodger album.
He also played 1974 single Rebel Rebel, telling the audience: "This is one that I said I'd never play again - and true to my track record, here it comes."

MONDAY BOWIE NIGHT! - NEW WEBSITE ASKS 'WHAT DID DAVID BOWIE DO AT YOUR AGE?' THE HORROR

My horrific response.
Gotta hand it to the brainchild of this site, nice one!
Put your age in and it brings up a random fact
of something Bowie did at that age. Sometimes
there's videos like mine above, sometimes

THE YEAR IS 1971 AND THE BEATLES ARE ON A 'PLASTIC SAFARI'! - RARE CD BOOT IS THE HORROR

very rare Beatles vinyl released on a German cd many

Additional notes 12/27 - A couple of songs into this on the first listen, very cool stuff so far, excellent sound quality, the version of What Is Life sounds like a rough mix after tracking horns. sweet!

MARK RUFFALO IS FALLING IN LOVE ON "THE 2nd DAY OF CHRISTMAS"! - 1997 TV MOVIE HORROR

While TV movies may not be my favorite genre,
every now and then a good one washes up on
my shore. On The 2nd Day Of Christmas stars
a young Mark Ruffalo and Mary Stuart Master-
son. If you can get over the hurdle of suspending
belief that any department store would ever
order their security guard to watch over a
single mom and her brat, then the rest is
very enjoyable. Overall the acting and production
is top-notch and the movie tries hard to be
a class act, I really dug the Norman Rockwell
style title cards that mark each "chapter"
of the story. Using my Palm Springs Rating
System, I give this flick Three Healthy
Palm Trees...The Horror!!

RINGO STARR SAYS "I WANT TO BE SANTA CLAUS"! - 1998 VERY BEATLES SOUNDING XMAS HORROR

Greetings all - Ringo didn't exactly go platinum with this
one but the album had consistently strong reviews
(with the exception of Rolling Stone surprising
enough) and the producer is someone he's worked
with many times. It's basically a three-man
project with everyone wearing multiple hats,
half traditionals and half originals, well
alrighty then....The Horror!!
