THE HORROR THAT IS "JACKPOT"! - 2001 INDIE JOHN GRIES AS A LOSER KARAOKE SINGER THE HORROR!

The Polish Bros "Jackpot" is one of those unknown treasures
in the indie film world just waiting to be stumbled upon.
It won the John Cassevette's Independent Spirit award
and stars Jon Gries as a karaoke star (or at least he
thinks so in his mind) who shrugs his own wife and
kid to go on the road with his equally disillusioned
manager played by Garrett Morris. A nice lot of tunes
sung by Gries and others (including a rare cameo by
Mac Davis!) are shown in the movie so it has a very
unique feel, 1/3 road movie, 1/3 musical and 1/3
character study. The comedy and drama are inter-
laced in a nice even way and this is definitely
one of those films very overlooked, using my Palm
Springs Rating System, I give Jackpot a solid
Three Palm Trees....The Horror!!
Note - getting harder to find now that it's 15 years old, best bet is to order a used dvd on Amazon, should be very cheap.

St Charles is credited to 5 people but it's mainly a Kantner/
Balin composition. And oh what a tune it is. For you
guitarists out there, this was also basically Craig
Chaquito's breakout album and song. In two words-
He shreds. Just a great tune, two versions below.

How Paul Kantner and Jefferson Airplane delivered LSD music to the masses

Those looking to understand the roots of San Francisco psychedelic rock need only read one observation from Paul Kantner, who died Thursday at age 74, to connect the microdots. "Jefferson Airplane had the fortune or misfortune of discovering Fender Twin Reverb amps and LSD in the same week while in college.

She sifts the hairy air that's worn and wood-swept, pleasantly;
She does as she pleases, she listens for me"

REFUSED 1998! - PUNK ROCK TURDS-DAY PULLS INTO THE STATION WITH 'THE SHAPE OF PUNK TO COME'

Just so you's knows I didn't forget the newer punk scenes,
subject to your approval one 1998 masterpiece of an
album from Refused and my man Dennis who went
on to form International Noise Conspiracy besides
a couple others. Everything this guy touches turns
to gold ya dig? Incredibly talented chap.

Refused: The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts [Deluxe Edition]

No band has ever mastered the ominous cymbal tap quite like Refused. On the Swedish hardcore band's final album and masterpiece, David Sandström's shivering tings signal a sort of warning. They usually come right as the band launches from tense, coiled quiet into all-out assault-- or, if they're already in assault mode, from one head-spinning riff to another.

Why 'The Shape of Punk to Come' Was Wrong

Fourteen years ago, Refused made an album that they called The Shape of Punk to Come. But it wasn't. The album was complex and challenging, full of sounds that had rarely been incorporated into punk rock (electronic and drum-and-bass elements! Jazz breakdowns! Ambient soundscapes!)

FEAR IS 'LIVE, FOR THE RECORD'! - 1986 LIVE LP OF A SHOW INSIDE A RADIO STATION - THE HORROR!!

PUNK ROCK TURDS-DAY SHUFFLES ON....
Fear has always been one of those bands that's much
better live than in the studio. This is the best official
release to own as it draws songs from both studio
albums and captures this old school punk band
at their best. They play a show at a radio station
and a 24-track mobile van showed up to record.
The whole album can be found pretty cheap
on cd, vinyl or cassette ha ha, this is the FEAR
record to own, found some but not all of the
songs on youtube, assembled a playlist below, njoy

CAREFUL AROUND THIS NEXT BEND IT'S A "DRIVE-IN MASSACRE"! - 1977 B-FLICK TRULY A HORROR!!

Oh boy, we got a little stench that precedes this one,
I will say this much- it has that 70's vibe to it in a
strong way but unfortunately nothing else to hang
it's hat on. A few gore scenes, I would say this one
is a good watch for lovers of the genre but even
b-movie fans aren't going to pull this one off the
shelf a second time, ya dig me? Using my Palm
Springs Rating System, this little slice of late 70's
gets One Palm Tree....The Horror!!

Film Review: Drive-In Massacre (1977)

SYNOPSIS: "At a rural, run-down drive in theater, a young couple arrives to watch the movie playing. They park their car and talk about having a baby. The woman suggests procreating at the drive-in, but the man, Alan, wants to see the beginning of the movie.

Every 70s Movie: Drive-In Massacre (1977)

For fans of '70s cheese, the prospect of a low-budget slasher flick set at a drive-in theater-and bearing the cheerfully blunt title Drive-In Massacre-is tantalyzing. Unfortunately, this particular picture's appeal ends there, because the amateurish movie squanders every bit of potential its concept promises.

PUNK ROCK TURDS-DAY! - DOUBLE SHOT OF FEAR - THE HORROR THAT IS "RADIO SHOW 1990" W WHO?

If ever there was a strange curiosity then it's this 15
minute radio done by yours truly in 1990. This was
when I was going thru my short-lived "I sound like
Hal Fishman from KTLA Channel 5 news" phase.
Each week had a different theme and this was the
show I did on punk and FEAR. They had just done
a reunion gig at the Hollywood Palladium sold out
so they were back in the limelight. The interview
portion with Lee Ving I recorded using an old
Radio Shack suction cup mic on the phone
earpiece, it's pretty comical stuff, remember I
did warn ya. Megalink - previously distributed.

PUNK ROCK TURDS-DAY! - THE HORROR THAT IS THE CIRCLE JERKS GROUP SEX ALBUM - SHEER PUNK!

Punk Rock 101 is in session and you're looking at the
"Exile On Main Street" of old school punk. 15 minutes
and 45 seconds of pure LA punk in 1980. 14 songs
that belong together, stick together and refuse to
compromise. Other bands would try, one or two
may have come close, but none that came after
this album have been able to top it...The Horror!!

Circle Jerks- Group Sex -When a group of males stand in a circle to jer Whoa there, hold yer horses. I'd be leading into one hell of a misuse for the definition of the phrase we're looking at here. I say, on with the review.

Prindle Record Reviews - Circle Jerks

Sometimes in life, you start off really good and then gradually rest your leg in the toilet. Such is the way with two of the most popular L.A. hardcore bands of the early 80s, X and the Circle Jerks.

"What the Jerks offered to their audience in and out of the studio was a rush of reality-depraved subjects, but yet, they centered around the reality of the life of an insomniac, a high-class pervert, and of course, and anarchist. Morris, after leaving a newly-established Black Flag with haste, partnered up with guitarist Greg Hetson, and later picked up drummer Lucky Lehrer, and bassist Roger Rogerson, and got right down to the addicting late-nights and constant touring that later led to the recording of Group Sex." - Sputniknusic

AROUND THIS NEXT BEND, IT'S "ZAAT", RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! - 1971 HALF-MAN HALF-CATFISH WTF

Kind of a take-off on the fly but instead of a fly
getting in the chamber, it's a catfish. This one is El Stinko
to the point of laughter, especially the costume and
extremely cheesy narration. Let's get this over with-
great trailer, terrible movie, One Palm Tree...The Horror!

Film Review: Zaat (1971)

SYNOPSIS: A mad scientist transforms himself into an aquatic killer. REVIEW: When I was first alerted about "Zaat", I will confess, it being the first I've ever heard of this title. No mentions in reading, no lost VHS tapes, no late night viewing's in the after hours, "Zaat" was simply off the radar completely.CCC: Clayton's Cinema Countdown

X 2004! - LIVE IN LOS ANGELES IS THE HORROR AS BAND MACHINEGUNS 21 OF THEIR BEST HORRORS

Now pay close attention cause there's going to be a
test later ya dig? There are two official live albums
in the X canon. They were both recorded in LA
but two decades apart. The first one called X Live
At The Whisky was a 2-lp album released in the
mid-80's. It's a damn fine album but didn't
have the greatest song order or selections so
doesn't flow that well. But this one from 2005
recorded at the House Of Blues LA is a 21
song powerhouse of basically every great X
song there is. The pace is set on first song
and doesn't stop, Johnny & Pauline still rock!

X - Live In Los Angeles (album review ) | Sputnikmusic
