TEN YEARS AFTER 1971! - "LIVE AT THE BRONX" IS A CLASSIC OLE SKOOL BOOT YA DIG? THE HORROR!
Opinions are divided over whether this is a soundboard
or FM Broadcast. I would call for the latter probably
recorded on a cheap cassette. Call it an A---.

IT'S THE "CLASS OF 1984," RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! - 1982 CANADIAN INDIE THRILLER AT HORROR HIGH!
New teacher at school battles the local gang,
sound familiar? Well, yes, it's been done before,
but not like this! After a quick intro to meet our
characters, Class Of 84 hits hard and doesn't
let up til credits role. Great performances,
some awesome stunts, a little gore but not
too much, and to top it off good ole Roddy
McDowell who has two scenes in particular
in the middle of film that are outstanding.
Using my Palm Springs Rating System and
rating it as a regular feature, Class Of 84
get Three Nice n Tall Palm Trees....The Horror!!

Movies like this either grab you, or they don't. "Class of 1984" grabbed me. I saw it for the first time at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival, where I wandered into the theater expecting to find the dog of the week and wandered out two hours later, a little dazed and sort of overwhelmed.

This movie blew my mind when I first saw it, it showcases the violence and debauchery of modern highschools. Ironically, when it came out, the movies vision of lawless highschools where gangs run the hallways and there are gun detectors at the entrance seemed like overdone fiction...

ACTOR'S SHOWCASE! - HIS NAME IS ANDY ROBINSON - PLAYED 'SCORPIO' IN 1ST DIRTY HARRY
Here's another great character actor steeped in the theater
found a niche in the 70's playing real creepy guy roles which
guess what? He's great at! Andy now runs the entire theater
program at UCSC. Interestingly enough his two best roles
are his first two. First in 1971's Dirty Harry as "Scorpio"
(El Creepo) and then in 1973's Charley Varrick as the
creepy sidekick robber not happy with his portion
of the loot who meets his terrible fate at the hands
of Mafia hitman Joe Don Baker in one of the movies
many great scenes. I don't know if I'd say it was
worthy of an Oscar but damn close, a great performance.
Andy is 73 now and still at UCSC, we salute you sir!

ELVIS PRESLEY IS NOT AT THE 7-11, HE'S IN A "DESERT STORM" - 1974 LAST VEGAS SHOW - HORRIFIC!
This is one tripped out Elvis boot, that's for sure.
Unique and different from other EP boots
for these reasons. It's the longest running
time ever for an EP show. It was the very
last show of a long stand at the Hilton
Hotel and after this night everyone would
be off for a month. So the mood of the band
and Elvis is not only happy but loosey
goosey. Elvis of course is totally fucked
up and launches into his first of many
dialogues right after the first song. he is
flyin'! But he seems to sober up a bit
after the first few songs and his voice
and performance are incredibly soulful.
The band breaks into spontanious jams
on a couple songs, something I've never heard
on any EP boot, the best of which is about
a 3-minute jam near the end of I Got A
Woman/Amen. A really great show
due to the vibes on stage, you gotta love it.

IT'S 'THE WINGED SERPENT' RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! - 1982 DRIVE-IN HORROR/FANTASY IS DOPE!
Been on a roll lately with new flicks and this was a
lucky find. Every thing about this film ROCKS.
And Michael Moriarty one of the most bizarre
actors to ever come down the pike is at his
goofiest best, it's like the role was written for
him. Add in locations in, on top of and around
the Empire State Building and you've got one
fun movie. Using my Palm Springs Rating
System, I'm classifying it as B-movie and
the best possible rating Two & 3/4
